Empowering Underprivileged Youth Through Golf

1. Introduction

Golf has long been perceived as an elite sport, often inaccessible to underprivileged individuals due to high costs associated with training, equipment, and course access. This project aims to bridge that gap by identifying and supporting talented young golfers from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with the necessary resources to develop their skills and pursue a professional career in golf.

2. Objectives

The primary goal of this initiative is to create a pathway for an underprivileged individual to become a successful golfer, ensuring not only personal career growth but also financial stability to support their family. Specific objectives include:

• Identifying young golf talent from underprivileged backgrounds.

• Providing financial support for coaching, equipment, and tournament participation.

• Ensuring access to proper training facilities and mentorship from experienced golfers.

• Creating educational and career pathways within the golf industry (e.g., coaching, caddying, sports management).

• Encouraging social responsibility by having the beneficiary give back to their community.


3. Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based on:

• Financial need and socio-economic background.

• Demonstrated passion and potential for golf.

• Commitment to training and personal development.

• Willingness to give back to the community.


4. Implementation Plan

Phase 1: Identification & Selection

• Collaborate with several clubs in Nepal and identify potential candidates below the age of 20 who are already showing promise and actively developing their skills

• Monitor youth tournaments and amateur events to spot emerging talent

• Conducting interviews and skill assessments.


Phase 2: Training & Development

• Assigning professional coaching and mentorship.Provide advise on training routines and career development.

• Providing equipment, course access, and tournament entry fees.

• Evaluate commitment, training frequency, and improvement over time.

• Incorporate sessions on mental toughness, strategic thinking, and fitness.

Phase 3: Career Support & Sustainability

• Sponsoring participation in national and international tournaments.

• Connecting candidates with professional networks, sponsors, and employment opportunities in golf.

• Encouraging further education and skill development in areas like coaching, sports management, and golf-related professions.


5. Expected Outcomes

• The selected individual will have a structured path to becoming a professional golfer.

• Financial stability for the individual and their family through career opportunities in golf.

• A ripple effect, where the beneficiary inspires and mentors other underprivileged youth.

6. Funding & Support

The project will require Fund Raising, sponsorships, grants, and partnerships with golf clubs, private donors, and corporate sponsors. Next SAFGR tournament will be dedicated

for this cause.Explore possibilities with international golf clubs for potential collaborations or sponsorships for training programs.

Communicate with UK based Golf Foundation for support to Golf For All project

Treasurer Sumed will be requested to do an estimation on requirement of funds.

The funding will cover:

• Coaching and training expenses - possible training at Bangalore Golf Institute and/or beyond.

• Golf equipment and attire.

• Tournament participation fees.

• Travel and accommodation for competitions.
